Festive Eyes
December 18th 2019
Who knew our eyes could be so festive?! ๐
Did you know there is a type of cataract called a “Christmas tree cataract”? It is also known as a “starry cataract”
Although rare, this type of cataract gets its name due to the “needle-like” polychromatic crystals within the deep cortex of the eyes’ crystalline lens. These crystals are highly refractive, iridescent and multi-coloured in nature. Upon slit-lamp evaluation, a variety of colours may be seen, including pink, green, blue, red, and gold, reminiscent of Christmas tree tinsel.
How cool is that?!
